Our Chapter's History

In the fall of 1984 a group of men contacted the Kappa Delta Rho National Fraternity. They were seeking an organization that stood for brotherhood, and placed honor before all things. The ideals of Kappa Delta Rho fit their needs and a "group of intent" was established in order for these men to better acquaint themselves with the Fraternity.

In the fall of 1985 this group of intent became the Upsilon Alpha Provisional chapter of Kappa Delta Rho, which was followed by a successful open rush. In recognition of it's hard work, on the 22nd of March 1986 the Upsilon Alpha Chapter was chartered by the National Fraternity becoming the first National Social Fraternity at Parks College of Saint Louis University. The men responsible for that acomplishment are:

Steven V. Thompson Christopher P. Arman Martin E. Hoffarth Douglas A. Balog Timothy S. Moore
Richard C. Donovan, III. Stephen F. Moxham Ralph A. DePalma, Jr. Mike F. Kazzle Daniel E. Mashburn
Gino A. Germani, Jr. Darin M. Yureck Jean A. Albuquerque Dairo Betancur Ansger J. Bichler
James M. Bono David R. Boone Stanley M. Chabert Jerry L. Dannenbrink Bruce Dinopoulos
    C. Scott Dube Ruehl F. Flores Mark A. Freestone Robert M. Gottfreid Ken A. Heeker
George F. Hellbach Kevin G. Hendrickson Brian H. Jennins Richard C. Jehnsen Jerry H. Kelly
David P. Kellner Michael J. Herell Charles P. Mayer Thomas P. McMahon Paul R. Over
Jonas Perez David A. Rowe, Jr. Eric J Schwartz Richard Scotto James A. Stanford
Michael P. Steiger Paul F. Stevens James A. Wagner William P. Wendel Mark S. West
Neal A. Westlund John D. Williams

The charter members of Kappa Delta Rho could not have accomplished so much without the help and support of the late John C. Carl (Theta, '51). His name will forever live in the hearts of our members, and his generosity will never end as a result of his annual chapter scholarship.  John's outstanding wisdom and guidance was a mainstay throughout the difficult process of creating what has become the best chapter at Saint Louis University.

With the move of the Parks campus to the Frost campus of Saint Louis University, KDR led the way becoming the first Parks organization recognized by the Saint Louis University Inter-Fraternity Council and at the time was the 6th Fraternity at Saint Louis University.

Kappa Delta Rho is the only fraternity to have survived the move from Parks, and as of 2006 had reached its 20th year as a chartered fraternity. The closeness and family oriented structure of the chapter has been the driving force as we continue to lead our lives under the motto "Honor Before All Things."

The chapter experienced great heights and championed many events at SLU in coordination with a number of Sororities on campus.  The bonds created among the brothers would last a lifetime all went on to achieve greatness.  Sadly however, in the spring of 2010 the active chapter officially closed its door as membership enrollment had fallen below sustainable levels.  Greek involvement in general across the country had fallen quite a bit over previous years.

The Alumni Corporation lives on though as strong as ever with the lives of the many brothers that were active at our beloved chapter.  The Kappa Delta Rho National head quartes is working on the plan to recolonize at St. Louis University (SLU) likely in the Fall of 2013.  Feel free to visit our Alumni Corporation Website - http://alumni.slukdr.com and/or find the group where it is most active at time of this edit on FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/kdrya

We wish you the best and hope you too strive to place Honor before all things!

    KDRProud,
    Tim Watkins
